The Coral Bays: A Natural Treasure to Discover in Haiti

Anyone traveling to Haiti knows that the true splendor of this country is not only revealed on the mainland but also within the coral bays that line its shores. This region offers an enchanting spectacle that captivates travelers, immersing them in a world of natural wonders. Amidst the stunning rocks, lively regattas, clear and tranquil waters, and the multicolored kayes that punctuate the shores, one feels transported into the imaginative realm of the painter Préfète Duffaut.

The allure of the enchanting nature of this region did not spare Eric Tabarly, the renowned French navigator, who was captivated by such beauty. In 1969, in collaboration with Haitian diplomat Pierre Chavenet, he founded the “Club Robinson Crusoé,” a haven for sea and adventure lovers. Bernard Lefèvre, on the other hand, established a section of the International Brotherhood of Buccaneers, an association dedicated to the values of solidarity and sharing among sailors.

In 1987, in collaboration with French navigator Alain Baussman, the first Sea Festival was organized in this paradise-like region. Since then, every year during Holy Week, swimming competitions, sailboat races, and fishing contests take place, bringing together enthusiasts of the sea and navigation.

The harmony between humans and nature in the coral bays is a spectacle in itself. Boaters, sailors, and water sports enthusiasts find here a true paradise to express their passion and live unforgettable moments. The richness of marine fauna and the crystalline waters also provide an ideal setting for diving and discovering underwater wonders.

The coral bays of the region are a preserved natural treasure that deserves to be discovered and explored. Beyond the beauty of the landscapes, they bear witness to Haiti’s maritime history and the Haitians’ attachment to their marine environment. Every visitor who ventures here is guaranteed to have an unforgettable experience, filled with wonder, adventure, and shared moments within a passionate community.

Setting course for Haiti’s coral bays allows one to be carried away by the magic of the sea, wind, and wild nature, in a scene as intoxicating as the finest artist’s canvas. It’s an invitation to be swept away by the waves, to feel freedom, and to savor the delights of a generous and enchanting nature.
