Cayes Jacmel: Haiti’s Hidden Treasure

Nestled in the Ti-Mouillage region, the charming village of Cayes Jacmel offers visitors a unique experience in the heart of Haiti. What stands out most in Jacmel is the splendor of its beaches, such as Cyvadier, Raymond-Les-Bains, Ti-Mouillage, and Ange de Kabic, all lined with majestic coconut trees.

Life in Cayes Jacmel is steeped in unique artisanal traditions. “Cancans,” small chairs, and “dodine” are crafted from a local wood called “trichilia mirta.” These creations are renowned to be among the best in the country. Additionally, beautiful mahogany ship models are also crafted here.

In Marigot, in the village of Fond-Jean-Noël, amidst a region of coffee cultivation, the “Haïtien Blue,” a high-quality arabica, thrives and is well-regarded throughout the region.

Cayes Jacmel houses numerous old sites to visit, offering pleasant and captivating walks. Among the treasures to discover, the Public Hospital of Cayes Jacmel is located about twenty kilometers east of Jacmel, providing essential healthcare to the population.

The rivers that water the South department flow into the Caribbean Sea, adding to the natural beauty of the region. Among them are the Tiburon River, the English River, the Port-à-Piment River, Acul, the Torbeck River, the Ravine du Sud, Ilet, and the Cavaillon River, where the Saut-Mathurine is located. The latter is a true spectacle of nature, a place where the beauty and power of waterfalls unfold before the amazed eyes of visitors.

Cayes Jacmel, with its enchanting charm, is teeming with natural, artisanal, and cultural treasures. Between its paradisiacal beaches, unique artisanal traditions, and historical sites to explore, Cayes Jacmel offers an unforgettable experience, an invitation to discover the hidden wonders of Haiti. Come and be enchanted by the magic of Cayes Jacmel, a unique destination that holds many surprises for you.
