Born in Port-au-Prince, he helped shape the sound that became a foundation of Haitian dance music across generations.

In 1955, Nemours founded Ensemble Aux Callebasses, the group that popularized compas direct and established his signature approach to rhythm, melody, and band arrangement. His catalog includes numerous compositions dedicated to friends and fans; among his best-known songs is “Ti Carole” (1967), which became a long-lasting favorite in Haitian popular music.
