Be the Support Your Child Needs 🏠
As a parent, you don’t need to be an expert in every subject to help your child succeed. Your role is to provide the tools and environment for learning.
1. Create a “No-Distraction” Zone
Set up a specific area for homework. Rules for the zone:
- No television or loud music.
- Keep phones in another room.
- Stock it with pens, paper, and a calculator.
2. Leveraging Khan Academy 💻
If your child is stuck on a math problem you don’t understand, don’t panic! Khan Academy is a free tool that provides step-by-step video tutorials.
- Search for the specific topic (e.g., “Long Division”).
- Watch the video together with your child.
- Practice the interactive exercises.
3. Ask “Leading Questions”
Instead of giving the answer, ask: “What does the textbook say about this?” or “Can you explain the first step to me?” This builds their critical thinking skills.
4. Praise the Effort, Not Just the Grade 🌟
Encourage a “Growth Mindset.” When they struggle, remind them that their brain is growing stronger. Consistent effort is the key to long-term academic confidence.
